2018 NFL Mock Draft: Jets get their quarterback in the first round
By Brad Weiss
The Atlanta Falcons have been a big of a headscratcher this season, after barely beating the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium this past weekend. In fact, the offense has played well below their talent level all season long, and you have to wonder if it is because former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is now the head coach in San Francisco. Regardless, they are too talented a team to not make the playoffs, which is where they would be if the season ended tomorrow.
As they look towards next year, and the 2018 NFL Draft, they may look to bring in some talent along the offensive line. Quenton Nelson of Notre Dame is by far the best offensive guard in this draft class, and with the playmakers on the Falcons offense, having an elite unit up front has got to be the priority. Maybe they are still going through a Super Bowl hangover, but this team has got to be better moving forward.
Nelson would join an already solid offensive line, but would be a starter from Day One at the next level. He has such good feet for somebody his size, and has the kind of strength you usually do not see out of somebody his age. The Falcons should turn this things round, and possibly win the NFC South, but if they do, and are picking late in round one, the chances of getting a player of Nelson’s caliber is very slim.
