Which NFL trade deadline blockbuster will have the biggest impact?

4. Kelvin Benjamin to the Bills
Need help getting separation in the passing game? Go out and trade for a big-bodied receiver. That’s exactly what the Buffalo Bills did yesterday. In one of the final trades before the deadline, the Bills made a stunning move and traded for Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin. It cost them a third and a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft but the Bills want to win now and they believe they’re legitimate contenders with Benjamin at wideout.
Despite being in the hunt for an AFC East title, the Bills offense needs some help. They’re the 29th ranked passing attack averaging just 178.7 yards a game and Bills wide receivers have the lowest percentage of receiving yards of any team this season. It speaks volumes when a tight end and running back are your leading receivers and something had to change. In comes Benjamin and he’s got the chance to make an immediate impact for Rick Dennison’s offense.
At 6-5, 243 pounds, Benjamin is everything the Bills need. There’s the injury concern after a torn ACL in 2015, but Benjamin is a proven pass catcher from what we’ve seen now in his third real year in the NFL. He’s a big-bodied target for Tyrod Taylor, who’s needed a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver after the team traded away Sammy Watkins. Benjamin is physical and is a receiver that can play the sticks. He’s someone who can get you those crucial second and third down conversions.
The best part for the Bills is that Benjamin comes cheap. He’s still on his rookie deal and doesn’t break the bank with his fifth-year option next season. The Bills have him under contract for the next two years at a minimum. With how well Sean McDermott’s team is playing this season, the playoffs are a very real possibility. Benjamin puts the Bills in an even better spot moving forward.
