Colts officially waive white flag, place Andrew Luck on IR
A disaster of a season just got even worse for the Indianapolis Colts as they placed star QB Andrew Luck on season-ending injured reserve.
In a move that seemed destined to happen for weeks, the Colts decided to throw in the towel on the season and put Luck on injured reserve. Luck himself is confident that he will be back in 2018, via the official team website.
"“I wish I was better and 100 percent this season, but that’s not the case,” Luck said. “I know I’ll be better from this. I know I’ll be a better quarterback, teammate, person and player from this, and I’m excited for the future.”"
The Colts are limping badly at the mid-way point of their season. They sit with a 2-6 record, dead last in the AFC South. The roster shows little to no promise in many areas. Their star wide receiver, T.Y. Hilton, has openly criticized his own offensive line and was reportedly shopped to other teams at the trade deadline this past Tuesday.
The whole situation stunk form training camp on. Everyone in the Colts organization including the owner, Jim Irsay, claimed that Luck would play this season. This quote came on August 13th via a local Fox affiliate -
"“I can’t say that unequivocally he’ll be ready for the Ram game,’’ Irsay said. “But I can say I feel confident he’ll be ready to start the season. Now that may not be the Ram game, but to start the season, yes.“He could start out in Los Angeles. I don’t want to act like that is a foregone conclusion that he’s not going to be starting out there. He could, but he also could not. But again, we don’t see an extended delay.“What that means, we’re not going to put a timetable on it because we will not – will not – put any pressure on this decision.’’"
At the time of this quote, Luck hadn’t even started a throwing program yet. It’s not exactly a crazy thought to think the Colts brass was just trying to make sure fans stayed sort of interested for the first part of the season. After all, Luck is the most indispensable part of the Colts roster. If fans knew he would be out, the season would basically be over before it started. About the only good thing to come from this whole mess is the Colts did land a serviceable backup QB is Jacoby Brissett form the Patriots right before the season started.

Indianapolis has a lot of work to do with the roster as a whole before the 2018 season starts. Hopefully, for them, they’ll have their star QB back to full health.
