47. Anthony Swarzak

Things finally clicked for journeyman right-handed reliever Anthony Swarzak. Entering the 2017 regular season, the 32-year-old pitcher had a career 4.52 ERA in 217 MLB appearances and was 1-2 with a 5.52 ERA in 26 games with the New York Yankees in 2016. Swarzak was released by the Yankees last October and latched on with the rebuilding Chiacgo White Sox.

That turned out to be a great career move for Swarzak. He made only $900,000, but has positioned himself for a multi-year deal in free agency this winter. Swarzak pitched in 70 games for the White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers and posted a 2.33 ERA in 77.1 innings with 91 strikeouts.

Swarzak throws a very hard fastball and slider combination and has seen his average velocity rise gradually over the past three years. His four-seam fastball hovered above 95 this season, and he threw his slider at nearly 88 mph. Swarzak throws each pitch roughly half the time. He is able to generate a high number of swings and misses with his fastball, which has a high spin rate. Opponents hit only .166 off the pitch in 2017.

Here is a veteran who should generate plenty of interest as a mid-priced middle reliever. He is in a very volatile group of pitchers but appears to have figured things out with his training and it will pay off in a big way for his bank account.
