Alabama Crimson Tide (9-0)

Last week: W 24-10 vs. LSU
Last rank: 2

The LSU Tigers went into Alabama with something to prove, as the oddsmakers had them down as a three-touchdown underdog. While the Tigers played well early, the Crimson Tide pulled away in the second half, as they ran their record to 9-0 on the season. Jalen Hurts got the party started in the first quarter, hooking up with Irv Smith Jr. on a four-yard touchdown to give Alabama a 7-0 lead that they would never relinquish.

Early in the second quarter, Alabama moved their lead to 14-0, as Bo Scarbrough found the end zone from nine yards out. The Crimson Tide allowed a field goal to LSU prior to the half, as LSU pulled to within two scores, but this game was really never in doubt. Alabama tacked on another touchdown after the break on a Hurts’ three-yard touchdown run, and the Crimson Tide were able to close out their sixth SEC win of the season.

Alabama’s defense was stellar in this one, as they held star LSU running back Derrius Guice under 100 yards on the ground. They will need to play that well against the run if they do matchup with Georgia in the SEC title game, as the Bulldogs have a vicious two-headed monster at running back in Sony Michel and Nick Chubb. For now, the goal is winning the SEC West, and worry about Georgia when the time comes.

The rest of the schedule has a couple of tough matchups, as they have to go on the road and take on Mississippi State and Auburn. This Alabama team might be the most balanced that we have seen in the past couple of seasons, which is saying a lot considering they have been to back-to-back title games. If the Crimson Tide do win out and win the SEC West, we are in for an incredible SEC title game after the regular season ends.
