Making the Wizards deeper

Wizards Get
J.J. Barea
Mavericks Get
Tomas Satoransky, 2018 second round pick

J.J. Barea may not be the kind of exciting name the Washington Wizards would like for their reserve point guard role, but Barea can still play at age 33. He’s been one of the most productive guards on an absolute dumpster fire of a Dallas Mavericks team this season.

The Wizards need that. Jodie Meeks is Washington’s best guard not named John Wall or Bradley Beal, and he scores less than 10 points per game. The Wizards’ backup point man is Tim Frazier. He scores less than three points per game.

There’s a reason Washington cannot survive when Wall and Beal have to sit on the bench to catch their breath. Barea might not seem that impactful, but he’d be a hell of a lot better than Frazier has been this season.

Life is hard for the Mavericks, who are dealing with an ugly Nerlens Noel situation and can’t seem to play well on either end of the floor. Satoransky isn’t going to help much, but he’s significantly younger than Barea, plus the Mavs get a pick to add to their rebuilding efforts. Also, letting Barea go to a team that can compete would be a nice show of goodwill for a franchise that loves stuff like that.
