Embrace the tank, part two

Hawks Get
Joakim Noah, Two protected first-round draft picks
Knicks Get
Dennis Schroder

If there’s a team giving the Mavericks a run for their money for that first overall pick in June, it’s the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks are in full-on tank mode, so why not go all the way in by trading their best player in a salary dump?

Dennis Schroder is a lot of things, but complicated might be the most apt word to describe him. He struggles on defense and has off-court issues around him after an arrest before the season began, but he can really score the ball at times, and he’s a real point guard. That’s more than the Knicks have right now.

Schroder probably isn’t worth two picks, but getting off of the terrible, bad, not good Joakim Noah deal is. Those things might have to be unprotected, honestly. A suspension is keeping him out until mid-November, and there’s no telling what kind of player he’ll be when he gets back.

The Knicks would love to get off of that deal. Adding a productive, fun point guard who will tear up defenses with Kristaps Porzingis pick and rolls in the process is gravy. The cost is high, but it needs to be for Atlanta to accept that idiotic Noah contract.
