Derwin James

S, Florida State

If anyone has been getting on Derwin James for not living up to the hype this year, he made sure to have himself a day this past week. It goes to show that talent will always rise to the occasion when pushed and James did great against Syracuse.

He was a monster in coverage and kept the Orange from getting anything going through the air. The safety even had a quarterback hurry just to remind Syracuse that he’s going to rush the passer as well.

In the win, James had four passes defensed and a big interception. After looking like he’s been just going through the motions in a down year, James really stepped it up and played a key role in the victory.

That’s what leaders do and it would be nice to see him keep having games like this the rest of the way. The Seminoles still have a chance to make a bowl game and should be motivated with Clemson in town this week.

Derrius Guice

RB, LSU

There was no question going into this past week that Derrius Guice was going to have his toughest challenge of the season. The running back was going up against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

For most, that’s where a bad day on the field occurs and Guice really had to work. He only had 71 yards on 19 carries, but the fact that the Tigers kept plugging away showed that the running back is healthy and running good.

In the end, just about every running back ends up having their toughest day against Alabama. That’s no reason to knock him in the draft rankings just because he didn’t have the biggest game in the world here.

He’ll have his chance to run wild this week however. The LSU Tigers will take on Arkansas and that’s a great opportunity for Guice. Arkansas has been struggling mightily in just about every single area and Guice could go off for one of his best games yet.
