2018 NBA mock draft: The NCAA season is here
One of the more bizarre stories in all of college basketball comes from Robinson’s camp. Over the summer, a series of stops and starts resulted in Robinson’s dismissal, reintroduction and subsequent departure from Western Kentucky.
He seemingly signed with the school to follow coach Rick Stansbury, who was an assistant at Texas A&M, where Robinson originally committed. Stansbury had also hired Robinson’s godfather as an assistant at Western Kentucky.
But for some reason, something in Robinson’s heart of hearts convinced him that the school wasn’t for him. It was so late in the process though, and a good deal of drama had already ensued, that Robinson declared that not only would he be leaving WKU, he wouldn’t be attending college at all in 2017.
Instead, the raw big man prospect will train through the season and likely declare for the 2018 NBA Draft. Scouts will worry that he is missing a season of competition in his best developmental years, regardless of the access he now has to world-class trainers and mentors.
At this point, Robinson is a very bouncy prospect with touch and not much else. He plays with a special smoothness, but that sometimes means a slowly chugging motor. It’ll be a wait-and-see situation with Robinson, unfortunately.
