Oklahoma Sooners (9-1)

Last week: W 38-20 vs. No. 6 TCU
Last rank: NR

The Oklahoma Sooners kick off our projected top four due to a stellar victory at home against TCU on Saturday. The Horned Frogs came into the matchup matching Oklahoma with an 8-1 record and would have been the top team in the Big 12 Conference with a win. Well, Baker Mayfield was once again just too good, and now sitting at 9-1, the Sooners have a legitimate shot at making the College Football Playoff.

In what could be a Heisman Trophy season for Mayfield, the senior quarterback is trying to make sure he goes out on top. On Saturday, Mayfield threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns, and kept the ball out of the hands of TCU for most of the game. He now has eight touchdown passes in his last two games, both huge wins over Oklahoma State and now TCU.

While Mayfield will likely get all the headlines for the victory, it was running back Rodney Anderson who stole the show in this one. Anderson was a touchdown machine for the Sooners against the Horned Frogs, finding the end zone on the ground, and through the air. He opened up the scoring for Oklahoma in the first quarter, and put on a dominant performance from there, scoring four times in the contest.

For Oklahoma, they have two games remaining on the schedule — an away game against Kansas, and then home to West Virginia. It is very likely they win out, and a rematch with TCU could be coming in the Big 12 Championship Game. If they finish the rest of the season without a blemish, it is going to be hard for the committee to overlook not only their record but the amount of star power this team could bring to the College Football Playoff.
