Toledo Rockets

Last week: Def. Bowling Green 66-37
Last rank: 8

Following its worst performance of the season, Toledo’s offense bounced back in an emphatic way on Wednesday night.

The Rockets struggled in the first half against Bowling Green at Doyt L. Perry Stadium before reeling off 42 points in the second half of a 66-37 victory over the Falcons. Toledo was unstoppable on the ground with 53 carries for 389 yards and seven touchdowns, five of which belonged to true freshman Shakif Seymour.

Those totals were a far cry from the performance in last Wednesday’s 38-10 loss to Ohio in which the Rockets managed just 316 total yards. That game certainly raises some red flags, but Toledo controls its own destiny in the MAC West at 8-2 and has a great shot at its second 10-win season over a span of three years.

Jason Candle’s offense is racking up 36.1 points per game thanks in large part to prolific quarterback Logan Woodside, who has 22 touchdown passes to two interceptions on the season. Running back Terry Swanson is now over the 1,000-yard mark following Wednesday’s outburst, giving Toledo one of the most balanced units in the Group of Five.

If the Rockets are able to win out, they will likely get a chance to avenge the loss to Ohio in the MAC Championship Game. Toledo closes out the regular season with a home matchup against Western Michigan on Nov. 24.
