Derwin James

S, Florida State

Derwin James is just yet another Florida State draft prospect that has had to overcome a bad season and slow start to the year. However, the fire has seemed to have been lit within and he’s started to ball out lately.

While people were expecting this each week this season, it was always going to take some time for him to shake the rust off now that he’s healed. Against Clemson, the Seminoles didn’t look great but James had himself a day.

He finished the ACC showdown with nine tackles and a pass defensed. His instincts allowed him to sniff out plays as they began and he made some really nice tackles against a Clemson offense that was having success move the ball.

His talent alone will have him taken early and if he finishes strong he’ll be back in the discussion for the top defensive back to come off the board. He’s simply too good to be overlooked at the next level.

Derrius Guice

RB, LSU

The LSU Tigers have turned Derrius Guice loose with the carries they are giving him and he’s making the most of them. A week after having to grind out a tough game against Alabama, Guice made Arkansas pay.

He averaged seven yards per carry on the ground against a team that wasn’t ready for him. He finished the game with 147 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns. He was responsible for the majority of the points the Tigers scored.

This is one of those running back classes where it doesn’t seem like there’s a wrong choice at the top. While the focus will be on Saquon Barkley, backs like Derrius Guice and Nick Chubb are going to make some team happy as well.

He’s fast, powerful and agile. He is starting to turn it on at the right time and there is no better time for improving draft stock than right now.
