30 years of WWE Survivor Series: Ranking each event

10. Survivor Series 1992
1992 was a big transition year for WWE and I’m not going to pretend that the 1992 edition of Survivor Series was great from top to bottom. However, as it’s been with some of the earlier entries, the standout matches more than make up for the lackluster bouts on the card. And there was certainly more than one of those that night at the Richfield Coliseum.
Big Boss Man and Nailz had a Nightstick on a Pole Match that Vince Russo probably loved but it wasn’t good. The only traditional Survivor Series match of the night highlighted The Nasty Boys, so you can imagine how good that was. Rick Martel and Tatanka put on a decent match and The Headshrinkers and High Energy were entertaining enough as well.
However, there were two matches that were outstanding and they were enough to put this Survivor Series in the top 10. The first was a tag match that saw Ric Flair (enough said right there) and Razor Ramon take on Randy Savage and Mr. Perfect. That’s four WWE Hall of Famers, so how could things go wrong? Mr. Perfect hadn’t wrestled much leading into that match but his natural ability was enough and he looked solid as he usually did. Savage got beat down for a lot of this match but he always did that so well. The action between Perfect and Flair was fantastic and Razor, who was pretty new to WWE at this point in time, looked great as well. The finish left a bit to be desired with the DQ but it was a very good match.
The main event of the evening was the very first time that Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels met for the WWE Championship. Bret was the new face of the company and Shawn had solidified his place as the top mid-card performer as the Intercontinental Champion and they went out and simply did what Bret and Shawn do. They put on a great match with Bret coming out on top, as he did quite often in their early battles. The Santa Claus thing at the end was a little ridiculous but it wasn’t enough to hinder the evening.
