5. Survivor Series 2009

I’ve heard many people talk about this show and how they were disappointed with it but this was a fun Survivor Series. People knock the lack of talent in this show but I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. Sure, there were some young guys in here looking to make a name for themselves but I thought most of the matches were entertaining and the main event featured three of the biggest superstars in WWE history.

The opening match featured a lot of future stars and a nice mix of veterans as The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus took on Evan Bourne, Finlay, John Morrison, Matt Hardy and Shelton Benjamin. Morrison ended up being left in there to go 1-on-3 against the heel group and just couldn’t get it done as The Miz, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus came out ahead to prove that the group of youngsters could outlast the veterans. Good storytelling there and a nice way to get a few guys over.

The Batista vs. Rey Mysterio match was pretty one-sided but with Batista having just turned heel after a few years, it was important for him to beat down a fan favorite like Mysterio. Next up was Team Kingston vs. Team Orton and this was a very entertaining match. Orton had his Legacy mates in Rhodes and Dibiase as well as CM Punk and William Regal while Kofi had Christian, Mark Henry, MVP and R-Truth. I really enjoyed the Orton vs. Kofi storyline and Kofi came out looking like a million bucks after coming back to beat both Punk and Orton in about eight seconds.

In the first Triple Threat Match for a world title, The Undertaker beat Chris Jericho and Big Show in a decent match and that was followed up by a very quick Divas elimination match that was difficult to get into given the quick eliminations. However, all was forgiven as the main event got underway.

John Cena was battling both Shawn Michaels and Triple H, who were doing the DX things at the time, but that went right out the window from the start as HBK gave some Sweet Chin Music to HHH right after the bell rang. The look on Cena’s face made the entire night and Michaels looked very intense throughout. Triple H would get his revenge later on by giving Shawn an amazing spinebuster through the announce table and it was on from there. All three gave great performances and Cena was able to overcome the odds and retain his title in one of the better main events in Survivor Series history.
