College Football Playoff Rankings 2017: Projected top four after Week 12
By Brad Weiss
The Clemson Tigers took care of business in a big way on Saturday, as they destroyed Citadel in Death Valley. Clemson was celebrating their seniors on Saturday, and they certainly gave the home crowd one more huge victory. This senior class has helped turn the Clemson Tigers into a powerhouse in college football, and they are a couple wins away from getting back to the College Football Playoff, where they could defend their title.
Kelly Bryant did all of his work before halftime, as he was removed before the teams went into the locker room after the second quarter. Bryant finished his short sample of work by going 17-for-22 passing, with 230 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Travis Etienne rushed for two scores, and freshman Tee Higgins was a beast in the passing game, catching six passes for 170-plus yards and two scores.
Deon Cain caught five balls for 140 yards and a score, and Will Swinney, the head coach’s son, had a 15-yard catch in this one as well. With the win, Clemson has now won at least ten games in seven straight seasons, which is second only to Alabama’s ten. They will travel to play South Carolina this upcoming weekend, with a matchup with Miami in the ACC title game on the horizon.
If the Tigers can beat Miami in the December 2 ACC Championship Game, they will have pulled off arguably their most impressive season yet. This team lost 80 percent of their offense from last season, including Deshaun Watson, who was an absolute stud during his time as the quarterback of the Tigers. There is still some work left to do, but with an elite defensive line, and a stellar attack on offense, this team could be headed back to the title game.
