Corey Clement

RB, Eagles

Clement entered the Eagles’ Week 10 bye week with a bang, scoring three touchdowns as the birds routed Denver, 51-23. Clement actually led the Eagles running back stable of himself, Jay Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount in touches that week with 13 (12 carries for 52 yards and two scores, and one catch for 15 yards and a touchdown). Ajayi finished with seven touches, and Blount had nine.

Now, I’m certainly not suggesting that that situation will repeat itself. You’d probably be lucky to get one touchdown out of Clement on any given week, let alone three. And with Ajayi presumably now fully integrated, he should fill the feature back role that the Eagles expected when they traded for him prior to that Week 9 contest.

However, I do think there’s reason to believe that Clement could fill the backup/change-of-pace role behind Ajayi instead of Blount. Ajayi and Blount run with a similar rumbling style, and neither is a game-changer in pass protection. Clement has impressed his coaches with his pass protection since early in the season, and he’s shown some burst lately, averaging over five yards per carry over the Eagles’ last three games.

Dallas is fair against the run, but the Eagles have just been too much for many teams to handle, and they could potentially go up big against the Cowboys. If that’s the case, a lot of rushing could be on the menu, and Clement could get some quality garbage time work.
