Matt Forte

RB, Jets

Ownership %: ESPN: 61%; Yahoo!: 40% | Role: One-week stash, potential flex ROS

I honestly can’t believe that a starting running back with Forte’s workload is rostered in only 50 percent of leagues on average this late in the season, but here we are.

It was only two weeks ago that Forte cruised to 96 total yards and a touchdown against the Bills on Thursday Night Football, but his ownership percentages have plummeted after he missed last week’s game with a nebulous (ominous?) diagnosis of “knee swelling.”

I’m here to tell you to roster this guy this week during the Jets’ bye. Get him before next week’s waiver period starts, and if he’s healthy next week, you just got yourself a starting running back with a guaranteed workload of about 12-17 touch opportunities (carries plus targets) per week. Make no mistake, the Jets prefer to play Forte over Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire, and they definitely will going forward just as they have the rest of this season.

There’s also of course a chance that once the Jets resume practice next week, Forte could experience another setback that affects his status for Week 12 or maybe even beyond. But chances are, his knee swelled up because he’s an old running back and that’s what old running backs’ knees do sometimes. The potential benefit far outweighs the risk.
