Saquon Barkley

Running Back, Penn State

The San Francisco 49ers had the week off in Week 11, and will try their best to win another game the rest of the season. Through their first 10 contests, San Francisco has won only one game, and that was to the then-one win New York Giants. They have a lot of work to do before this franchise is relevant, though they took a step in the right direction by trading for New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo prior to the trade deadline.

When it comes time for them to select next April, they will likely be picking in the first couple of slots, and they should look to bring in a running back with the pick. Carlos Hyde has been a solid player for them, but he is not a true three-down back. Saquon Barkley from Penn State may be the best running back prospect we have seen in a long time, and he would be a nice fit for the 49ers as they rebuild the roster.

Barkley can do it all on a football field, and has really gotten better in the passing game this season. He has led the Penn State program back from the brink of obscurity, and while he is only a junior, he is likely headed to the NFL Draft. The 49ers will likely stay away from going quarterback next April, as they have Jimmy G, and if they cannot sign him, they may actually make a run at Kirk Cousins, who has a history with head coach Kyle Shanahan.
