Mike McGlinchey

OT, Notre Dame

The competition for top tackle in college football is going to get that much more difficult. With plenty of options to choose from, every tackle is going to continue to be carefully evaluated each week.

Mike McGlinchey’s job just got a little bit tougher with the return that Connor Williams had. Coming into this season, McGlinchey and Williams were seen by many as the top two tackles overall.

After a bad performance against Miami, McGlinchey was much better against Navy. By now, the stats on McGlinchey are known. He’s an incredibly tall tackle that bends well but like many has issues with fast EDGEs.

He’s not the first offensive tackle that has had to battle issues with guys with plenty of speed, but he’s going to be a top pick because of his intangibles and overall body of work. He’s left a legacy because of his leadership and the Fighting Irish aren’t dead yet in the playoff race.

Bryce Love

RB, Stanford

Stanford and Cal is always going to be a close battle between the rival schools no matter the situation. This time, the Cardinal kept their Pac-12 North hopes alive by pulling out the close victory at home, 17-14.

The catalyst for the huge win was Bryce Love. For the second week in a row, Love carried his team to a victory and now, they have a chance at winning their division and getting another shot at USC if they can win and Washington can win.

In the win, Love finished with 101 yards and one touchdown to go on 14 carries. The highlight of the night displayed breakaway speed as he went 57 yards and couldn’t be caught by anyone on the Cal defense.

He’ll have a huge test in the finale this week against Notre Dame. If Stanford was able to knock off the Fighting Irish, it would be a signature win and a day to boost the draft stock for Love. He’s been one of the great surprises this season.
