What you missed this week in the NBA: KD vs. Russ, ridiculous Rockets, Celtics
3. Late game heroics
While the streak in Boston may be over, a new streak has just begun. The Cleveland Cavaliers have won six-straight, climbing up the standings in the East. LeBron James and company now occupy the No. 4 seed and that number continues to get lower. The Cavaliers have finally figured things out and that’s thanks in part to some late game heroics by James. King James took matters into his own hands, scoring 18-straight points late in the fourth quarter against the Nets. The 18 points were a part of James’ 23 fourth quarter points and all of this came after receiving stitches mid-game. Cleveland went on to win 119-109 and the Cavaliers took home a sixth-straight win.
Elsewhere, Devin Booker nailed a 30-plus-foot turnaround jumper to send the Suns-Bucks game into overtime. Although the Suns eventually fell 113-107, the youngster made the Bucks earn the win after an incredible 3-pointer to treat fans to free basketball.
And as if that wasn’t enough, Harrison Barnes gave Mavericks fans something to cheer about (finally). Barnes nailed a 3-pointer off the glass to give the Mavericks a stunning win in Memphis over the Grizzlies. To sweeten the deal, Barnes received the ball with just 0.5 seconds left on the clock. Talk about late game heroics.
Buzzer beaters and clutch performances are all a part of the game. But it seemed as if NBA players were destined to treat fans to an abundance of them this week. Nobody knows — or frankly cares — why, we just sit back and enjoy the sweet, sweet madness that is basketball.
