College Football Playoff Rankings 2017: Projected top four after Week 13
By Brad Weiss
During their win against the Kansas Jayhawks last weekend, Baker Mayfield made an obscene gesture to the Kansas bench. For that, he was not allowed to start for the Oklahoma Sooners in their home finale, which also happened to be his last game at Owen Field. Mayfield not only could not start but was also not allowed to be a captain, though his teammates did bring his jersey out to midfield for the coin toss.
Mayfield was visibly upset during his press conferences this week, and once he did get into the game against West Virginia, he proved why he is the best player in college football. After watching his Sooners teammates score on their first drive, a drive that took only two plays, Mayfield entered the game. Once in the game, Mayfield threw for three touchdowns against a West Virginia defense that had no answer for the Sooners, who also dominated on the ground.
Star running back Rodney Anderson rushed for four touchdowns in the game, as the Sooners were able to do whatever they wanted with the football. Mayfield’s effort should do a lot when it comes to his Heisman campaign, as he has to be the clear front-runner at this point. The quarterback has been a finalist for the award the last two seasons and based on his play in 2017, he is going to leave nothing to chance in his final year on campus.

The Big 12 Conference actually has a championship game this season, where the Oklahoma Sooners will take on the TCU Horned Frogs. The Sooners already beat the Horned Frogs this season, easily defeating TCU by the score of 38-20 at home. TCU locked up their spot in the Big 12 title game with a blowout victory over Baylor Friday, and with a healthy Kenny Hill back under center for the Horned Frogs, this game is certainly going to be a good on next Saturday.
