No. 20: Washington State

Washington State closed its regular season with a disastrous loss to Washington, falling by over 30 points. This closed the Cougars’ season at 3-3 in their final six games, before heading toward a bowl game. It won’t be the most significant one but an opportunity to reach 10 wins.

No. 19: Memphis

Memphis holds a 10-1 record, including a 70-13 annihilation over Eastern Carolina. Weak competition, like this, has caused the Tigers to not crack the top 15. That’s along with not having a spot in a Power Five Conference. A conference title game against UCF, however, will say plenty for the imminent future of this program.

No. 18: Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State looked guaranteed to reach 10 wins. However, Kansas State interrupted this, shocking the Pokes in Week 12. That made Week 13 a must-win over Kansas, which didn’t become a difficult task (as expected). This allowed the Cowboys to finish 9-3, but without a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game.

No. 17: LSU

LSU played its final game of the season against a lame-duck Texas A&M squad (expected to fire head coach Kevin Sumlin), and had its way through 60 minutes. This finished the Tigers’ season at 9-3 while going on a three-game winning streak. Not a bad ending for a team that started 3-2.

No. 16: Notre Dame

Notre Dame was once a legit player for the College Football Playoff. Then came the blowout loss to Miami, which damaged its chances at a top-four spot. However, the nail in the coffin came against Stanford, whose 21-point fourth quarter ended the Irish’s opportunity and may take them out of a New Year’s Six bowl.
