Winner: Oklahoma Sooners (No. 3 up to No. 2)

You can’t knock what Lincoln Riley has done with the Oklahoma Sooners after Bob Stoops abruptly retired this offseason. He was always considered the “next in line” to take over for Stoops once he retired and he was forced into action earlier than expected.

No one really knew what to expect from Oklahoma when Stoops retired and the program hasn’t skipped a beat. There was one upset loss at home against Iowa State in which fans were quick to criticize the young coach and state that he wasn’t ready to lead, but Riley got his team back up and ready to play the next week.

Now, Oklahoma is 11-1 on the year with a blowout win over West Virginia in Week 13. The Sooners will get a shot to make the playoff with a win over TCU in the conference title game next week.

Oklahoma jumped from the No. 3 spot this week and this new ranking has the Sooners in prime position to land a top playoff spot. Will the committee see the Sooners as the No. 1 or No. 2 team in the land? Baker Mayfield is playing at a Heisman-type level and he’s made this team tough to beat.
