Winner: Watford

Watford supporters have to be praying every night that Marco Silva stays on as their manager. Everton, who are in crisis mode, have repeatedly tried to steal him away from the Hornets to no avail. If results continue in Watford’s favor like they have been lately, it’s only a matter of time before he leaves for a bigger job. For now, fans can rejoice at how well they’re playing.

Watford beat Newcastle 3-0 on Saturday, the goals coming from Will Hughes, Andre Gray and a DeAndre Yedlin own goal. They looked dominant for the majority of the game against a solid, but out of form, Newcastle. Silva’s side don’t always create a lot of chances, but they do generate good chances. Against Newcastle on Saturday, the Hornets only managed four shots on target but scored on two of them. They currently have the sixth most goals in the league, ahead of Tottenham.

Not only have Watford been winning playing attractive soccer, but they’ve bought well too. Attacking midfielder Richarlison has been a revelation for Silva’s side, scoring five goals and adding three assists in 13 matches. The Brazilian is only 20 years old and cost £11 million. Andre Gray has been inconsistent at his new club, but has two goals and two assists early on anyway. Hughes and Marvin Zeegelaar have just begun to start games, and both have been their sides’ best performers over the past two matches.

Watford have Manchester United and Tottenham in their next two contests, but then have a much easier December ahead. It’s not out of the question that Marco Silva could lead them to a Europa League spot this season.
