Fantasy football: Top 10 waiver wire Week 13 pickups
By Morgan Dunn
4. Jacquizz Rodgers
Jacquizz Rodgers has been on the fantasy radar before, as recently as earlier this season, in fact. Rodgers served as Tampa Bay’s starting running back for the first few games of the season, as the incumbent Doug Martin was out via suspension. Rodgers has received little to no work since Martin’s return to the lineup but was once again thrust into duty on Sunday when Martin exited the Bucs’ matchup with Atlanta due to a concussion. Rodgers turned eight carries into 31 yards on the ground, adding a single catch as well. Those numbers aren’t great, but Rodgers could suddenly see a large workload if Martin is to miss any time.
Martin’s concussion is an injury that may not hold him out of action in Week 13, but it certainly could. Plus, the Bucs may simply want to try Rodgers in an effort to mix things up. The Tampa Bay offense has been in shambles in recent weeks, so much so that it feels like a foregone conclusion that head coach Dirk Koetter is all but guaranteed to be fired by season’s end. The coaching staff may look to Rodgers and Peyton Barber to ignite their offense a bit, especially if Martin misses a game or two.
Owners targeting Rodgers need to be aware of Barber as well, as he received five carries and scored a pair of touchdowns on Sunday. Barber didn’t look nearly as good running the ball as Rodgers did, but if he’s going to get goal line work it will hurt the value of his backfield mate. The chance to land a starting running back, even one who may just have the job for a week or two, at this juncture of the season is too good to pass up, especially if you’re a RB-needy owner with a roster spot to spare.
