NFL quarterback rankings, Week 13: Alex Smith craters
Don Strock Division
21. Josh McCown (Prev: 21)
McCown has actually come in and done a nice job or the Jets this season. Hell, he’s turned Robby Anderson into a thing, hitting him with another deep touchdown pass on Sunday.
20. Marcus Mariota (Prev: 17)
Mariota doesn’t get the scrutiny he deserves. Many of the NFL media play the kid up, but he’s been horrid this season. Nine touchdowns against 12 picks isn’t getting it done. He has plenty of talent around him. There’s no excuse.
19. Eli Manning (Prev: 20)
Manning might be playing out his last season with the Giants, although that scenario likely doesn’t come to fruition because of his contract. Regardless, New York would be well-served to start finding his long-term replacement in the upcoming draft.
18. Cam Newton (Prev: 16)
Newton was 11-of-28 against the Jets this weekend, and Carolina still won. If the Panthers are going to do anything serious in January, the time is now for Newton to start playing more consistent football.
17. Alex Smith (Prev: 11)
Smith is our biggest dropper two weeks in a row. Stats say he’s been average, but watching him has been appalling. The Chiefs have lost five of six and have little hope of making the playoffs if he’s not benched for Patrick Mahomes. His lack of pocket presence and understanding o basic zone concepts is stunning for a 33-year-old veteran.
