Baltimore Ravens: A Bobby Bonilla-like annuity for the Joe Flacco contract

So what are we going to get the Baltimore Ravens? They clearly don’t like to tank, as they have found themselves in possession of dare I say an AFC Wild Card spot. No, you’re not as good as Pittsburgh this year, but that’s okay.

I understand that you will want a gift that will help you on your abbreviated AFC playoff run/first-round exodus, but you will thank me later for this gift. This year, general manager Ozzie Newsome becomes the NFL’s Daryl Morey with the salary cap. Baltimore figures out a way to make a Bobby Bonilla annuity out of Joe Flacco’s contract.

It’s too big and it’s killing your ability to build a great football team. Pay Flacco one million dollars every year for life so that you can part ways with him and overpay for Alex Smith or

Ray Lewis and Ed Reed aren’t walking through that door, Ravens. I’d give you all the elite players in the world if I could. Fortunately, many of them play at Newsome’s alma mater down in Tuscaloosa, though Nick Saban wears them out like Flacco is doing your cap. Is this an Amnesty Clause? Yes, yes, that’s what will call it. Flacco might be cool, but he’s not even an Average Joe any more.
