Georgia Bulldogs (12-1)

Last week: W 28-7 vs. Auburn
Last rank: NR

Coming into the 2017 SEC Championship Game, the odds were the winner would be locking up a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Auburn Tigers came into the game as one of the hottest teams in college football, beating the No. 1 team in the country twice in a three-week span. The hot streak came to a close on Saturday in their biggest game of the year, as the Georgia Bulldogs won the SEC title game easily, cruising to their first conference title since 2005.

For Georgia, they got huge efforts from their freshman on Saturday, as quarterback Jake Fromm really put the team on his back. Fromm threw for two touchdowns against a tough Auburn defense, stepping up and making big throws when the team struggled to get it going on the ground. The passing attack seemed to take the Tigers by storm, and gave guys like Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, and fellow freshman D’Andre Swift a chance to get going.

While Chubb and Michel have been the stars all season long for the Bulldogs this season, it was Swift who actually led the way in rushing yards during the title game. Fromm finished the game 16-of-22 passing for 183 yards, with those two touchdown passes. If the Bulldogs can come away with a national title, it will be their first championship since 1980, which is an incredible statistic considering this is one of the premier programs in the country.

Star linebacker Roquan Smith was named Player of the Game, and for good reason. He was on the receiving end of two huge turnovers, and he pressured Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham all game long. Smith is likely to be selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, but first, he has a national title to go after. This Bulldogs team can ground it out and play good defense, which is the recipe you need to win championships at any level in the game of football.
