Luke Maye … Look At That Man!

No, really. Just look at that picture of Luke Maye. Looking like a cross between a well-meaning werewolf and an Abercrombie & Fitch model, Maye has been outstanding so far this season.

We can go through the counting-stats if you want. They are as pretty as you would expect. He’s shooting all kinds of efficiently, getting buckets in bunches, and has apparently developed into a player who can contend for National Player of the Year awards.

That’s right. The dude who spent the majority of his first few seasons playing the role of rotational talent has emerged to become a gosh slam world-beater. A soul devouring hoopster. Mr. I’ll Steal Your Girl. Etc.

Thanks to this, North Carolina isn’t in a transitional phase. Instead, Daggum Roy Williams and company are appearing like a legit threat yet again in 2017-18.

To be somewhat less hyperbolic, the Tar Heels haven’t exactly played a murderer’s row type of schedule so far. The lone huge game UNC did play came against Michigan State, in which the Tar Heels only scored 45 points, looked awful, and Maye scored 8 points on 3-for-13 shooting.

There is reason to temper with some of the Luke Maye excitement. Then again, no one wants to. Not only is college basketball better when North Carolina is good, but … Look. At. The. Man!
