2. The Shield reunites

Since we’re already talking about The Shield as it pertains to Kurt Angle, let’s go ahead and jump into the reunion that the WWE Universe had been waiting on for a long time.

When the trio of Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns debuted in 2012, they quickly became one of the hottest things in WWE. They ran over so many top stars in the company and would eventually take on and take out Evolution before Seth Rollins betrayed his brothers and joined up with Triple H and The Authority in 2014. All three members would go on to win the WWE Championship and while every single one of them has no problem being on their own as a singles superstar, there was always going to be that itch to get the band back together and 2017 was the year it finally happened.

Over the summer, it started with Ambrose and Rollins as they got into it with Cesaro and Sheamus, who were holding the RAW Tag Team Championship. Rollins had defeated Sheamus in a singles match but was double-teamed following the match and Ambrose came down to make the save, which he told Rollins later he would not do again. The following week, Rollins was beaten down again and Ambrose did not help. Ambrose would get attacked later in the show and Rollins would come to his aid. Ambrose offered up a fist bump, the former sign of The Shield, but Rollins declined.

This continued on and on the Aug. 14 episode of Monday Night RAW, Ambrose and Rollins actually argued and brawled with each other in the ring before Sheamus and Cesaro hit the ring, at which point Rollins and Ambrose teamed up to fight them off and finally gave us the fist bump, which was one of the loudest crowd pops and one of the best segments of 2017. They’ve continued their feud with Sheamus and Cesaro into the end of the year.

However, there was one more piece to the puzzle and that’s obviously Roman Reigns. The full reunion was teased for a while before it officially took place in early October on an episode of Miz TV. Unfortunately, Roman got sick and could not take part in their first match back at TLC, which led to the Kurt Angle return. However, we finally got what we’d been waiting for as The Shield took on Cesaro, Sheamus and The Miz on the November 19 episode of RAW before taking on The New Day, who had cost Rollins and Ambrose the tag titles, at Survivor Series in an amazing encounter.

The chances of The Shield staying together for a while isn’t high as it’s been heavily rumored that Ambrose will get his revenge on Rollins and turn on him before WrestleMania, which is when Reigns will likely officially become the face of WWE when he beats Brock Lesnar. However, the time we’ve gotten from this dominating trio has been fun to watch.
