Scout’s Eye: Kareem Hunt, Todd Gurley show special talents
You think the Panthers have figured out how to use Christian McCaffrey?
From the start, the Packers had no answer for Carolina’s dynamic rookie running back in the passing game. Carolina moves McCaffrey all over the formation and his ability to handle and process so much information is very impressive for such a young player. A good runner, McCaffrey has quickly become the ultimate receiving option for the running back position. He very well could challenge Reggie Bush’s record for receptions by a rookie running back after his 133 combined yards performance in Week 15.
McCaffrey averaged over 7.5 yards per touch against the Packers. McCaffrey runs every route imaginable and was especially potent against Green Bay on option routes where he shows an aptitude for reading coverage on the fly and then exploding out of his break for an easy Cam Newton completion.
Many reported that at the combine McCaffrey was the best receiver in this rookie class, and that is including wide receivers and tight ends. The Panthers first round pick is living up to that billing. McCaffrey failed to control an onside kick attempt, but other than that, he was spectacular. Maybe McCaffrey shouldn’t be dismissed in the Offensive Rookie of the Year conversation either.
