St. Bonaventure Bonnies

A talented St. Bonaventure is finally healthy and playing to its full potential, giving the Bonnies a chance to get on the right side of bubble heading into A-10 play.

With senior stars Matt Mobley and Jaylen Adams set to lead the charge, the Bonnies had high expectations of playing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012 entering the season. Unfortunately, Adams missed six games with an ankle injury, leading to a rocky 4-2 start including an ugly loss to Niagara to open the year.

The Bonnies have recovered with four straight wins since Adams returned, and own a good win over fellow bubble team Maryland. Still, there won’t be a lot of margin for error in the Atlantic 10, so St. Bonaventure could really help its at-large case by topping Northeastern and Syracuse this week ahead of the Christmas break.

Adams hasn’t shown any lingering effects of the ankle problem with 17.8 points per game through four contests, just trailing Mobley’s team-high mark of 17.9. Juniors Courtney Stockard and Ladarien Griffin are also emerging as solid pieces, and the Bonnies have been stout on the defensive end with just 0.935 points allowed per trip on the season.

Winning at the Carrier Dome on Friday night could be a huge resume booster, as the Bonnies won’t have another chance to grab a marquee win before traveling to Rhode Island on January 13.
