8. Georgia Bulldogs – 2018

Result: TBD

For my money, the best team in the 2018 iteration of the College Football Playoff is the Georgia Bulldogs. Yes, they have one loss on the season, as do the other three teams competing. And yes, they were handled pretty well by Auburn in that game. With that being said, they showed just how much of an outlier that game was when they got their chance at a rematch with the Tigers in the SEC Championship Game.

Starting with the offensive side of the ball, it’s hard to find a way that you can stop the Bulldogs on any given day. As is often the case with groups from Athens, that starts with the running game led by the two-headed monster of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. Not only are both backs capable of playing on Sundays at a high level, but you’re also talking about two guys running behind a great offensive line. Moreover, Jake Fromm has come in at quarterback and has been as solid as they come.

Then switching gears to defense, this unit is loaded. Whenever Georgia brought in Kirby Smart, they knew he would get the Dawgs defense back to glory and that’s already the case. The unit is rife with high-level athletes that play with speed and power that is just immensely difficult to contend with. Put simply, they’re suffocating, especially with the way their running game can control the pace of a game.

This could turn out to be wrong, but I’d bet that it’s Smart’s Bulldogs that emerge as the fourth National Champions in the College Football Playoff era.
