Texans at Colts: Preview, prediction, odds and pick
By John Buhler
The Indianapolis Colts will host the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon in Week 17. Here is a game preview, the betting odds and a final score prediction.
We only have one more week of NFL games this season. This will be the season finale for all but 12 teams on New Year’s Eve. One game that will be going on Sunday afternoon will be between AFC South rivals in the Houston Texans (4-11) and the Indianapolis Colts (3-12).
Kickoff from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis will be at 1:00 p.m. ET on Dec. 31. CBS will have the early afternoon telecast with Tom McCarthy, Steve Beuerlein and Steve Tasker in the booth to call the ball game.
Houston is 4-11 on the year and obviously eliminated from playoff contention in the AFC. The Texans suffered so many injuries and they wrecked their season. Houston did however have one positive thing come out of a disastrous 2017 campaign. Rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson looks to be the real deal. The only problem is that he tore his ACL and has been done for the season for months now.
Indianapolis is 3-12 on the year, having undergone its worst season since the 2011 NFL campaign. Star quarterback Andrew Luck didn’t play all year. Though Jacoby Brissett looks to be worthy of quarterbacking some other team next year, the luck ran out in Indianapolis sans Luck. Expect the Colts to move on from head coach Chuck Pagano at the end of the season. It’s been a terrible year for Colts fans to say the least.
Betting Odds
Point Spread: Indianapolis -3.5
Moneylines: Indianapolis -195, Houston +180
Over/Under: 41
According to OddsShark, the Colts will be laying 3.5 points at home to the visiting Texans. The associated moneylines for this game are Indianapolis -195 and Houston +180. This game’s over/under comes in at a combined 41 points.
Do you like the quarterbacks in this game? Me neither, so we’re going with the under in this game, even if it is being played in a dome. Though neither team has much to play for in this one than pride, look for some players to really shine in their last game of the season.
Expect Brissett to have a huge game for the Colts offense. He will connect with his star wide receiver T.Y. Hilton on a pair of brilliant deep balls. The mobile Brissett will find pay dirt on a 14-yard scramble to essentially seal the deal for Indianapolis.

Yes, 21 points will be enough to beat Tom Savage or whoever is leading the Texans offense. One touchdown pass to wide receiver extraordinaire DeAndre Hopkins and three field goals is all that Houston will be able to put up on the road in Indianapolis. The Colts win and cover the 3.5-point spread in the process.
Pick: Colts 21, Texans 16
