21. Redskins fun bunch

While touchdown celebrations are getting more and more creative this season, we’ve got to take it all the way back to the 1980s for this one. The Washington Redskins had better days then and certainly had better celebrations.

During the 1980’s the Washington Redskins had a group known as the Fun Bunch. It consisted of a number of running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. They let the way for the Skins in their prime and had one of the best touchdown celebrations. When the offense scored a touchdown, the group would circle up, jump up and give each other high fives. It was even better when they capped it off with a 1983 Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Well known by all of the NFL, the players were literally just having fun. It was really one of the first group touchdown celebrations we saw and it led to the league’s enforcement of excessive celebration penalties. We saw Ohio State recreate the group during their dominance in the early to mid-2000’s but nothing will ever compare to the original Fun Bunch. Redskins fan or not they were a talented group of players to watch.

The funny thing is by today’s standard that wouldn’t even compare to the creativity of some of the more modern celebrations. That’s why we’ve seen an evolution over the years but the Fun Bunch will always go down as one of the classic touchdown celebrations, there’s no doubt about that.
