24. Lance Moore Hingle McCringleberry

You know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, especially when you’re imitating one of the NFL greats like Hingle McCringleberry. Back in 2013, comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele had a hilarious sketch on their comedy TV show, making fun of excessive NFL celebrations. A player by the name of Hingle McCringleberry scored a touchdown and proceeded to do a provocative celebration in the end zone.

Turns out, former Saints wide receiver Lance Moore saw the sketch and wanted to reenact it himself. After scoring a deep touchdown against the Buccaneers in the 2013 season, Moore followed in the footstep of McCringleberry and did his well-known celebration in the end zone.

Just like McCringleberry, Moore earned an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the play that was much deserved, but who even cares. Anyone who’s seen that sketch knows that is hilarious. The best part is the referees said Moore was flagged for an “illegal demonstration.” That’s an interesting way to word it but I guess that holds up true in the books of the NFL. You just know that celebration was addressed in the league office the week after. I would’ve loved to see what that conversation was like.

This is one of the more underrated celebrations of all-time. Those who don’t get the celebration can’t fully appreciate but the rest of us knew exactly what Moore was doing. He was just looking up to one of his idols and you can’t blame him for that.
