1. John DeFilippo

DeFilippo is another young (39), rising head coaching candidate, based on his work with Carson Wentz as Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach over the last two seasons. He has also been a quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders (two stints) and the New York Jets in the NFL. DeFilippo even spent one season as offensive coordinator for the Browns, in 2015 under Jackson’s predecessor Mike Pettine.

DeFilippo has moved toward the top of the list of rumored candidates to be the next head coach of the Chicago Bears. John Fox will inevitably be fired, probably practically upon landing back in Chicago after Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. They also already have a young quarterback who looks like a long-term answer in Mitchell Trubisky, while the jury is at best still out on DeShone Kizer for the Browns right now. If all things were equal, the Bears may be a little more appealing to an offensive-minded head coaching candidate.

The Browns need to either work with/commit to Kizer as their quarterback going forward, in order to attempt to get the best out of him. Or they’ll need to find, and try to develop, yet another young quarterback from the 2018 draft class. DeFilippo seems to be well-suited to either path.
