2018 NFL Mock Draft: Baker Mayfield to Bills
By Brad Weiss
The Washington Redskins finished off their regular season in grand fashion, as they were beaten on the road by division rival New York. To make matters worse, the team is still very noncommittal on quarterback Kirk Cousins, who could be shown the door this offseason. That would certainly put the Redskins in a place where they would have to trade up to get a quarterback, but we are going to assume they bring the veteran back on a long-term deal.
While the offense certainly struggled after losing some of their key weapons last offseason, the defense was equally bad. One area of serious need for the Redskins is at the safety position, and Derwin James should be the first player off the board in that position group. James has been a stellar player during his time with Florida State, and is one of the more versatile players in college football.
There is a lot wrong in Washington, but at least they have some stability at the head coaching position. James is going to be an instant starter at the next level, and has the size, and speed to be a real playmaker in the defensive backfield. He also has tremendous hands and left Florida State as the most prolific return man in school history. James would be a solid fit in D.C.
