NBA Mock Draft: DeAndre Ayton joins the Hawks
Metu will be 21 by the end of the season, but you can see in his play that he continues to grow.
The junior has multiplied his scoring and cut down on the negative plays that plunged USC into a sixth-place finish in the Pac-12 during his freshman season. Per 40 minutes this season, Metu is contributing a double-double on a 60.4 true shooting percentage to go along with two blocks. His fouls are down around three per game, and he continues to improve as a shooter. Each step has been positive, and the end result looks like a very well-rounded and impactful player.
Andy Enfield’s Trojans don’t quite run things through Metu, but they can feel comfortable when the ball scoots to him on the block. With talented players like Jordan McLaughlin and Bennie Boatwright around him, Metu has grown into a better distributor along with his scoring development. He is comfortable making plays driving either direction from the post, using his athleticism as a terrifying weapon. Not many guys can rise up for a dunk as instantaneously as Metu.
Metu should benefit from another tournament run as the Trojans look to build on a close second-round loss last season, especially if they ever get De’Anthony Melton back. He looks like a good bet to make a positive impact on both ends of the floor as a rotation player in the NBA.
