1. Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers reached the end of their rebuild a year or two ahead of schedule and won 86 games. They pushed the Cubs all the way to the final month of the season for the NL Central crown and ultimately came up just short of winning the NL’s second Wild Card. The Brewers are an exciting young team with a rapidly-blossoming core of position players and a sneaky-good starting rotation.

As good as the MLB roster is becoming, the Brewers still have seven of MLB’s top-100 prospects waiting down in the minor leagues. Lewis Brinson is the best of the bunch — a true five-tool outfielder.

If they aren’t already at the point, the Brewers will soon be in a similar position to the Cubs where they will simply have too many talented, young players with too few at-bats to go around. The time to start trading from that stockpile could be now. Keon Broxton and Brinson are both very promising, but both could be two years away from putting it all together at the MLB level. Christian Yelich is already there and an established star.

The Brewers are never going to be a team that can woo aces like Jake Arrieta or Yu Darvish with nine-figure contracts, but that’s not what they need to do to get over the hump and back into the playoffs. Now is the time to supplement the young hitters already in the big leagues with another established bat. Milwaukee is the one team with the right combination of incentive to acquire Yelich and the prospects to get a deal done.
