Each NFL team’s Olympic candidate
By Joe Schiller
Oakland Raiders: Kelechi Osemele, Bobsleigh
Finally, some love for the big men in the trenches. Often we’ll see offensive lineman left out of a list like this because they aren’t considered your prototypical athlete but Kelechi Osemele is as good as they get. He’s the first and one of only two offensive linemen featured on this list.
It can be easy to choose running back Marshawn Lynch or another offensive playmaker like Amari Cooper but this is thinking outside of the box. Osemele would be my first pick as the Raiders’ Olympic candidate.
Now in his second season with the Raiders after spending four years with the Ravens, Osemele has been worth every penny and more. He’s been a rock on the line and is one of the nastiest players you’ll see in the NFL. Osemele is ferocious and not afraid to be mean in trenches. That’s what you want in your offensive lineman and Osemele is just that. He’s a ginormous human being at 330 pounds and knows how to dominate any matchup he comes up against.
There’s no question Osemele is doing an event associated with his size in the Olympics. But instead of throwing him on the ice rink, I’d like to see him on a bobsleigh team. Osemele can throw his weight around and he’d be the perfect addition to a four-man bobsleigh team.
