28. Army vs. San Diego State (Armed Forces Bowl)

  • Date: Dec. 23
  • Outcome: Rmy wins 42-35

There are quite a few Army games featured on this list. The Black Knights vaunted option attack made for some very interesting results. However, if there’s one Group of Five program that could keep up with Army’s ground game, it’s the San Diego State Aztecs.

For two straight years, San Diego State had a top-notch running back that contended for the Heisman Trophy, even with a Group of Five team. Star running back Rashaad Penny could not power the Aztecs past the Black Knights, despite 221 yards and four touchdowns.

A costly interception from San Diego State quarterback Christian Chapman gave Army exactly what it needed to win the game. Few possessions came up empty for either squad, as most lasted a while due to a ton of rushing attempts.

Army quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw is the main reason for the Black Knights victory, with his tough rushing. Bradshaw racked up nearly 200 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He’s the MVP for the Black Knights in 2017 and helped them pull this one out in a thrilling bowl matchup.
