24. Auburn vs. LSU

  • Date: Oct. 14
  • Outcome: LSU wins 27-23

This was a turning point in LSU’s season in 2017. An early season loss, on Homecoming no less, to head coach Neal Brown and the Troy Trojans threw the Tigers into chaos, considering the defeat came at home at Tiger Stadium.

LSU quarterback Danny Etling led the powerful comeback in this game against Auburn. Much like the Red River Shootout between the Sooners and Longhorns, Auburn once carried a large lead over LSU until a comeback in the middle of the game made things very interesting.

After a suspect first half from the LSU defense, the Tigers tightened up in the second half. Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham did not have much room to work in the second half. And, after a strong first half, Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson had a tougher time in the final two quarters.

LSU outscored Auburn 27-6 in the last three quarters. Three LSU field goals, a punt return for a touchdown from D.J. Chark, and a touchdown pass from Etling powered LSU to the 27-23 victory. Not only was this Auburn’s worse loss of the year, it put LSU back in contention in the SEC West.
