2. St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals are probably the classiest organization of the teams on this list. That is when they’re not hacking other teams databases. Last season they brought in Dexter Fowler as a free agent who was previously with the Cubs so why not bring in another Cub the following season?

The Cardinals expect to compete for division titles every year so this season won’t be any different. Adam Wainwright is getting older, and the team is transitioning to their younger pitchers who are pretty good. Alex Reyes started five games but also appeared in seven games out of the bullpen. Mike Leake hopes to rebound from a poor second half of the season last year, and the two young guys Jack Flaherty and Luke Weaver are still young.

With the departure of Lance Lynn, and no sign of him returning to the team the team might look to add another pitcher so they don’t have to keep asking Adam Wainwright to be the Wainwright of old, because it’s not happening.

Arrieta could also serve as another veteran voice among the pitchers, and teach the young guys some extra things alongside Wainwright. The Cardinals actually adding Arrieta may not be that high, but as I said before the Cardinals expect to compete every year and if Arrieta helps them do that then that’s the route they’ll go. It’s all about how well he can fit with the team, and this could be a good fit for both parties.
