New Orleans can win a shootout. It’s doubtful Minnesota can.

As stated before, the pathway to victory for the Vikings is on the straight and narrow. Play great defense and don’t let Keenum turn the ball over. No, he doesn’t have to Blake Bortles it to win, but Keenum is just not capable of battling the shootout savant that is Brees in a high-scoring thriller in a dome.

Should Keenum want to pretend he is still slinging it in the Houston Cougars Air Raid, Marshon Lattimore and company are about to have a field day. Sure, the Vikings have the defensive back talent to pick off Brees, as they surely will at some point. However, this is one of the eight best quarterbacks of all-time the Vikings defense is going up against. Do we even know where Keenum will play next season?

Frankly, the lower the score, the more likely Minnesota will win this game. The Saints offense will disappear on occasion against some of the better teams in football. So yes, there is a pathway to victory for the Vikings by throttling the Saints offense with an outstanding Purple People Eaters level effort. That’s totally in play.

However, there is no way that the Vikings are going to be able to keep pace with the Saints offense if they decide to Baker Mayfield Big 12 football on us. Minnesota is not going to win a 45-39 high-octane thriller. This was the Saints’ bread and butter up until this season. For about six years there, that was the only way the Saints could win with their formerly rancid defense.
