5 things to watch on the NBA’s MLK Day slate
By Morgan Dunn
1. Warriors-Cavs
Expecting something else? What’s been the biggest matchup of the last three NBA seasons is yet again just that this year, despite what Boston Celtics fans may tell you. These two teams have met in the NBA Finals for three consecutive years now, developing an intense rivalry along the way that should go down as one of the best in recent memory, especially if we’re treated to a fourth NBA Finals clash this June. Yes, Kevin Durant has been out as of late due to a calf strain, and it’s unclear if he’ll be available against the Cavs, but anytime we get to see these two juggernauts clash it’s a real treat. What more could we want as NBA fans?
Steph Curry has been on an absolute tear since returning from his own injury-related absence, reminding us that while he may not be the best player on Golden State he remains the most valuable to the team. His 45-point effort against the Clippers on Jan. 6 was nothing short of masterful, and you can bet he’ll be ready to rain down 3-pointers on the Cavs on MLK Day.
On the Cleveland side of things, LeBron James is playing some of the best regular season basketball we’ve seen from him in years, which is a scary proposition for any opponent. He’s had some legendary performances against Golden State over the past few years, and Cavs fans surely hope to see another one here.

James recently saw his best teammate, Isaiah Thomas, return to the court after missing more than 30 games due to a hip ailment. While the Cavs continue to ease their big offseason addition into the rotation, this matchup against the Warriors could serve as a coming out party of sorts for the diminutive guard. This is not a game to miss.
