3. Frank Reich – Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Coordinator

Best-known during his playing days as Jim Kelly’s backup with the Buffalo Bills, and the orchestrator of an epic playoff comeback against the Houston Oilers, Reich has fairly quietly built an NFL coaching resume. He has worked as a quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator for a few teams, including the last four seasons as offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers (2014-2015) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2016-present).

Reich has particularly done good work with the Eagles and Carson Wentz over the last two seasons, which has advanced him up the totem pole of head coaching candidates. Like Shurmur, he has helped author a creative and variable offense that has been greater than the sum of its parts. Head coach Doug Pederson is in line to get some credit for that, as a former offensive coordinator himself, but Reich seems set to become a head coach very soon.

The Titans will have to wait to interview and/or officially hire Reich, as the Eagles are in the NFC Championship Game and could obviously go the Super Bowl. But once again, with Mariota’s development and potential in mind any viable candidate has to be worth the wait.
