Bobsleigh: “The Passenger” – Iggy Pop

I couldn’t figure out how to get a ‘Mats song in here for Mr. Hill, so I’ve satisfying one of my own needs and getting some Iggy Pop action in on some of these Winter Olympics. He’s from Detroit and it snows there a lot, so there’s a good chance Pop has been a passenger on a bobsled-like device before.

Sure, I could have gone with one of the songs from Cool Runnings, but “The Passenger” just syncs up so well when you’re watching at least five hours of bobsledding competitions on YouTube to prepare for this once in an Olympiad assignment. Who knows how much longer we’ve got Iggy Pop, so this is mostly a tribute to him.

I mean, the dude spells it out pretty obviously in the beginning. “I am the passenger and I ride and I ride and I ride.” There are at least four people in that bobsled that ride and ride and ride. When their heads get into sync around those bends, you can just put the “La la la la la la la la” part of it and then you’ve just score the most beautiful movie, about bobsledding of course.

The biggest question is if Iggy Pop would even where a shirt if he bobsledded. There is only one appropriate response here and that would be in the negative. Sadly, I couldn’t get The Stooges to ride in a bobsled before most of their passings. This is for Iggy Pop and I think he’d appreciate that. I mean, who doesn’t like bobsledding, especially when you can bet the over/under with friends.
