2. Tarvarus McFadden, CB, Florida State

There were a number of reasons to be excited about Tarvarus McFadden entering the 2017 season. The Florida State cornerback really showed some great traits throughout the previous season, including tying for the lead in the entire country in interceptions, hauling in eight takeaways on the year. Standing at 6-foot-2 and 198 pounds with great length, he looked to be a big-bodied cornerback that NFL teams would fawn over once the draft rolled around. Then the season from Hell came calling for the Seminoles and McFadden wasn’t immune.

After notching eight picks the year before, McFadden hauled in none on the 2017 season. As if that wasn’t bad enough, though, his lack of turnovers wasn’t because teams weren’t targeting him or because he was getting unlucky. Simply put, the drop in production was because he wasn’t playing well at all. Teams started throwing deep on the big corner and he saw himself getting beat quite often early in the season.

With all of the hype coming into the season, there were some that had McFadden pegged as the first cornerback coming off of the board in the 2018 NFL Draft. Now, he’ll be lucky if he’s taken on Day 2 of the draft. Given his physical tools, he has the potential to be a much better prospect than that. But by leaving Florida State after this past season, he’s coming out of school when is value is much lower than it would’ve been had he stayed in college and improved upon his weaknesses.
