21. Frank Gore, RB, Indianapolis Colts

Gore fell 39 yards short of the 10th 1,000-yard rushing season of his career this year. But he did surpass 14,000 yards for his career, and he moved into fifth place on the all-time rushing list. At 34 years old, Gore continued to defy the typical running back age curve and be fairly productive. He has not missed a game since the 2010 season, when he was with the San Francisco 49ers.

But Gore is headed for free agency, and a return to the Indianapolis Colts is highly unlikely. He himself said he’d be interested in a return for a fourth season with the Colts if Andrew Luck (shoulder) is healthy. But that interest may not be mutual, with 2017 fourth-round pick Marlon Mack in place and some early mock drafts giving the Colts Penn State running back Saquon Barkley at No. 3 overall.

Retirement is probably on Gore’s radar, with his 35th birthday on May 14, and the market for his services will be limited based almost solely on his age. But he is just 76 yards from passing Curtis Martin for fourth on the all-time rushing list, and a contending team or two may have interest in a one-year deal with Gore to come in and serve as a veteran backup. For teams that may wind up choosing between Gore or Adrian Peterson in the over-30 running back market, Gore is clearly the better choice.
